French rocker Hallyday premieres on Orange mobile phones
2006-08-21
The latest single from French rocker Johnny Hallyday, one of the France's most famous singers, has been released exclusively on Orange mobile phones, Orange and Warner Music France said. The single, called "La Loi du Silence" (The law of silence) is taken from Hallyday's forthcoming live album called "Flash Back", a selection of recordings from his recent tour. It was released to users of Orange mobiles phones on Monday but will be available for download over the Internet or from other mobile phone companies only next week on August 28. Warner Music France, Hallyday's record label, did a similar deal with Orange last year for exclusive extracts from Madonna's latest album, to the dismay of rivals and traditional distributors of music. Record companies derive an increasing proportion of their revenues from downloads over the Internet and on to mobile phones. Mobile phone companies are locked in a fierce battle to provide low-cost phone services coupled with content such as football clips, music and news.
