French director Luc Besson awarded top Serbian film prize
2006-12-29
French film director Luc Besson was awarded the highest Serbian film prize, the "Golden Seal", for his "contribution to the art of cinematography". "The art of film is a visiting card of a country and it allows each country to travel around the world," Besson said at the ceremony held in the French embassy in Belgrade. Noting that the US cinematography "has become more like an industry after a long domination," Besson said the audience "is getting bored with it." "That is why in France, but also in other European countries, the audience is turning back its attention to a national cinematography," the 47-year old director said. Besson, who arrived in Belgrade to promote his 10th film "Arthur and the Minimoys", said he had no plans for future movies. "I can not imagine myself making films just to make money or gain more fame. Working on film demands energy, desire and youth and I am, after three decades, reaching the autumn," said Besson. However, Besson, whose films include "The Big Blue" and "The Professional," said if there would be a "screenplay that will make me jump of excitement, I will direct again." "Arthur and the Minimoys" stars the voices of Madonna, Snoop Dogg and David Bowie for the English version and Mylene Farmer, Alain Bashung and Marc Lavoine in the French version.
